Have you ever been asked what superpower you would like to have? A research study conducted by Keith W. Beard, Psy.D. (professor of psychology, Marshall University), April Fugett, Ph.D. (associate professor of psychology, Marshall University), and Josh Carter, Britani Black, and Elijah Wise (doctoral students, Marshall University) examined how your choice of superpower may influence occupational interest and career choices. The choice of a superpower was compared to six occupational themes/categories. Certain superpowers are uniquely associated with one of the six occupational themes, suggesting that certain superpowers are frequently desired by people in particular career areas. This information could be used for such things as career counseling, focused marketing toward certain outlets, and guiding individuals toward leisure time opportunities and hobbies.
